- Les Gets is a small original 12th century
mountain village in a pass, whose population peaked at 1300 people
in its farming heyday at the end of the 19th century. The are
still only 1300 residents so it is as far from a purpose built
resort as you can imagine, with its old quarter, quaint buildings
and family run shops and restaurants. A village where everyone
knows everyone.
- The village has come to know that its most
precious asset is you, the visitor, and all the shop keepers,
ski instructors, bar owners and lift staff make every effort to
look after you and offer you the kind of experience that will
hopefully bring you back the following season. You'll find excellent
ski shops, well-priced and offering expert advice and a 'try it
out first' attitude to any purchase.
- This is a gently sophisticated understated
resort, with few famous French or Swiss brands on the main street.
A little chic international shopping here, with the sports and
clothing shops offering the best of winter brands at less than
Paris or Geneva prices, and managing to slip in a little Prada
and friends.
- Nightlife is limited to a number of friendly
bars, with only one nightclub (established 1932) which is a blast
from the past, but still buzzing most nights until 5 am. It is
this very understatement that attracts winter visitors season
after season.
