to see an interactive map of the pistes.
- The largest ski domain, and one of the most
varied in Europe. The Portes
du Soleil stretches from Les Gets eastwards towards Chatel
on the Franco-Swiss border, and across to Champoussin and Champery
in Switzerland. 650 kms of groomed piste (and off piste if you
are so inclined) where you can travel across snowy borders with
not a border post in sight.
- That means a different ski landscape every
day of your stay, if you are after variety, and skiing that varies
both in difficulty (or ease) and nature, from the romantic (gentle
narrow runs through thick forest) to the exhilarating (fast wide
and narrow runs above and below the tree line).

- This is one of the least crowded ski domains
in this part of the world, well served by lifts that rarely entail
more than a couple of minutes of queuing - with exceptions, of
course, when British half-term collides with French school holidays,
which is still considerably more tolerable here than elsewhere.
The lift system is not only well-maintained but also well managed.

- Mountain coffee shops and restaurants everywhere,
(serving essential vin chaud, of course) whenever you feel like
a pause…
- What you won't find: le jet set - its an
understated resort village with great charm.
